Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can Reiki help cure all the diseases?
All diseases invariably result in weakening of the body’s systems, lowering of energy levels and diminished efficiency in general. This happens primarily due to the deficiency of vital force (Prana Shakti) in the body: Reiki practice directly increases this vital force in our bodies, which in turn enables the various organs, and systems to work better. Over a period of time, the inherent ability of the human body to heal itself also increases. Reiki treatments help even chronic problems like Blood Pressure; Diabetes, Backache, Asthma to name a few. The problems generally associated with the ageing process can also be taken care of thereby allowing the practitioners to age gracefully.

2. Does Reiki work for everyone?
Reiki works in direct proportion to the degree the recipient of the treatments is willing to receive the healing. If a person, for some reasons, is not willing to receive a treatment, healing does not take place.

3. Is it necessary to have faith in Reiki in order to benefit from it?
To start with, it is not a prerequisite to have faith for either learning Reiki or to be treated with Reiki. All that is required is a willingness to give Reiki a fair chance. Many believe that a strong faith is integral for healing through Reiki. This is SIMPLY NOT TRUE. How can we hope to have faith in any new system without first witnessing tangible results? Faith develops once we have personally experienced positive benefits from Reiki practice.
As one practices more and more of Reiki, something akin to Blind Faith tends to develop. This is because over time we invariably learn more about the working of the human bodies ,its diseases and the subsequent cleansing and the omnipresent role that Reiki plays in each.
Ultimately, a strong faith IS required for healing the deep-rooted chronic ailments. This faith automatically develops over time while witnessing the results of on going treatments. To directly answer this question, faith is not required for the healing process yet is mandatory for complete healing to take place.

4. Is the Reiki channel’s own energy lost while treating others? Can he become weak in the process of treating others?
This is another very common misconception because of insufficient knowledge regarding the Reiki system. A Reiki channel (i.e. the person doing Reiki) never, ever heals anyone. It is the Universal Life Force that heals while the person (Channel) just allows the healing to take place. It is not the healer’s own energy that is used for healing. This Universal Life Force flows through the Divine Channel of energy (situated between the Crown Chakra and the Heart Chakra) and then through the hands of the healers. This channel is lying dormant in all human beings but gets activated during the Attunements conducted during the course of the Workshops.
As a matter of fact, both the healer and the person being healed benefit from every healing situation. A Reiki Channel’s own energy is never ever depleted.
The misconception regarding the Channels becoming weaker probably has its roots in a general lack of understanding of the cleansing process. As discussed earlier in the chapter on Detoxification, healing is a direct result of the cleansing of the inner systems that is initiated as one uses more and more of Reiki. This cleansing is intensified if the channels are relatively new to the practice and start treating too many without doing adequate self-treatments. So what is being witnessed, as ‘weakness’ after healing someone is in fact the cleansing of the channel’s own bodily systems. The need to thank these patients is even greater as they have helped the channels to get rid of some of their own toxins.

5. Do we need to concentrate for successful Reiki practice?
Many channels complain that they are unable to practice because they are not able to concentrate and this is another common misconception.
The beauty of the Reiki system lies in the fact that you do not need to make additional efforts at concentration for being successful. Reiki is one of the many Divine Energies that exist in nature. Do we need to concentrate in order get the benefits of Sunlight, Cool Breezes etc.? What do we need to do to enjoy these energies? Just sit in the sun and get the benefits irrespective of whatever we may be doing. Be it drinking tea, reading a book, chatting or merely relaxing. How about the artificial man made energies generated by devices like Air Conditioners etc.? We just need -to switch on the appliance and sit nearby. Do we need to CONCENTRATE on getting “cooled”? NO.
Similarly, all that is needed in the Reiki practice is “switching on” the flow of Reiki energy as demonstrated/taught in the workshops and then allow it to its own course. Absolutely no kind of concentration is required for getting better results.
Regular Reiki practice does help improve concentration levels at the core. A few examples would be students preparing for exams or writing them or for that matter sportspersons who need to concentrate while performing at peak efficiencies.

6. Is it possible to harm ourselves with an excess of Reiki practice?
Reiki can be practiced for as long as the Reiki channel gladly and willingly wishes to. There is absolutely no possibility of any kind of damaging side effects because of any ‘excess’ of Reiki practice. In fact chronic diseases DO require long sessions of Reiki treatments everyday for that matter, for faster relief and cure.

7. How long does it generally take (in terms of days, weeks or months) for a patient to be rid of his chronic disease with Reiki treatments?
Experience shows that it takes less time to cure diseases that have manifested recently. However, chronic diseases that have existed for a long time do require an extensive period of treatment. At least two to three sessions of Reiki treatment each day are recommended for faster results in these cases.
As a benchmark, at least one month of treatment is required for every year that the chronic disease has existed in the physical body.
However this is not as simple as it sounds. There could be other factors that need to be healed, before the actual disease can be addressed and cured. These could include Relationships / Financial Situations / Self Worth issues. These (invisible) factors act as a catalyst in creating various diseases.
For example, a person who has damaged his liver due to alcohol abuse may have hit the bottle out of sheer depression arising from a Bad Relationship or Financial Problems or low Self Esteem or a combination of all of the above. Such a patient would require healings at all these levels to be completely cured of his drinking habit. Compare that to another patient with a similar problem but who enjoys excellent relationship, has sound financial health and a higher level of self-worth. In the latter the energy requirements and subsequent healing time would be lesser as compared to the former patient.
A Second Degree channel is taught techniques to deal with significant other areas of life with the help of Distance Reiki treatments.

8. Can more than one Reiki Channel do Reiki for the same person simultaneously?
Group treatments are known to give excellent results in healing as several levels of the patient’s body and/or life get treated simultaneously. The individual strength of every member of the group helps bring these powerful results. If the patient is also a Reiki Channel, then he can heal himself while receiving group healing.

9. Are there any specific requirements regarding time, place of practice etc. for successful Reiki practice?
Reiki can be done any time and under any circumstances, i.e. while sitting, standing or lying down anywhere.
Having said that, if Reiki is done while lying down in quiet and peaceful surroundings, the results are enhanced as we get the positive benefits associated with Meditation, Prayers and Sadhana. It is recommended that Reiki be done in a quiet and peaceful place accompanied by some nice soft music. This helps to take the mind away, leaving Reiki free to charter its own course and cause.

10. What do we need to do in case we encounter negative thoughts, doubts, fears etc. while doing Reiki?
There is a strong likelihood of experiencing feelings of doubts, anger, fear and other negative experiences during the course of Reiki practice. A word of caution for people who want to grow in this field . This is the time when people generally give up on Reiki. It is imperative to keep the faith and continue. It is only a matter of time before slowly but surely you will tide through.
It is important to understand that these are all positive signs of cleansing taking place at the Mental and Emotional level. All that is required when experiencing these negative emotions is continued (and increased) practice of Reiki to flush these demons out from the systems.
Reiki practice will eventually lead to a joyous, calm and blissful life.

11. Is it possible for a healer to get the problems, diseases of the person being healed?
It is one of The Laws of Nature that the healing energy, just like all other energies in the Universe, flows from a Higher to a Lower level.
All problems, diseases etc. do require some form of energy to transport them from one person to another.
A Reiki Channel functions at a higher level of vibrations while the problem has lower and denser vibrations. For a channel to get a disease from his patient it would require a reverse, upward flow of dense, diseased energy from the patient to the healer and this would require breaking the above Law of Nature, which is impossible. Therefore, there is no possibility of the healer contracting any problems of the person being healed.
Consider the situation where clean water is flowing from a tap into a bucket full of dirty water. After some time the dirty water will become relatively cleaner as more and more clean water flows in. Neither the clean tap water or the bucket ever get dirty.
Having said that, in certain situations, IF the seeds of the problem exist at some level in the healer too then he also gets healed while healing the patient. At times, the associated symptoms of the disease are known to “surface in a milder form in the healer too, creating the misplaced impression that the healer has taken on the problems of the patient. Regular treatments of the patient will heal the healer as well. This is a very significant and largely misunderstood aspect regarding Reiki Healings.

12. Should we stop taking medicines for old chronic diseases while taking Reiki Treatments?
Reiki therapy compliments all other forms of healing therapies. It is observed that all medicines start giving faster and better results when complimented with Reiki treatments.
We do not advise any patient to give up or reduce the doses of the medicines he has been taking regularly. All medications should be (reduced, or stopped ONLY as prescribed by the patient’s medical practitioner)

13. When should Reiki treatments not be given?
Reiki treatments are not recommended –
a) When a person does not want to be treated with Reiki.
b) When the Reiki Healers do not wish to impart Reiki but feel compelled to do so.
c) When a person falls sick frequently in an attempt to gain attention from his well wishers.
d) During surgeries in the form of Distance Healing by new Second Degree Channels as Reiki reduces the effect of anesthesia. Senior experienced channels can do Reiki in these situations.
e) Additionally, Reiki treatment should not be done by touch on mentally unstable persons who tend to become violent or on patients suffering from infectious diseases. Distant healers can do healings for these patients.

14. Is it possible to get rid of addictions with the help of Reiki?
Reiki treatments are very effective whenever an addict willingly wants to get rid of his addictions but fears withdrawal symptoms that generally occur with other de-addiction programs.
Treatment time may be lengthened just in case there are other issues at stake like relationship matters, financial issues or self-worth issues.

15. Can the results of Reiki healing be guaranteed?
Please note that Reiki helps as the highest form of healing in any given scenario.
Sometimes, the results of the healing may not match our own desired outcomes. This is where the spiritual aspect of Reiki treatment becomes most obvious. For example, when it is time for a person to make the transition from this life, being at peace with death is the highest form of healing possible. We as humans may prefer a complete cure. Yet Reiki sets its own priorities and therefore cannot be used to guarantee outcomes according to our limited personal agendas.
Like all the new and unusual things in life, this too has to be experienced personally in order to be believed and understood in its entirety and content.
